5 Tips to Earning Income as an Amazon Affiliate/Associate

If you have read my previous posts, you know that Amazon offers an endless array of products for affiliates to sell and consumers to buy.  When you are a member of the Amazon Associate Program (Affiliate and Associate are interchangeable here), you have the opportunity to earn a advertising fee based on sales.

If you follow these tips, it should help you to start earning a consistent income from Amazon.  Let's take a look at the tips:

1.  Selecting a Niche is the Key to Success - As we keep repeating, the very first thing you MUST do is decide what your niche will be.  In fact, if you don't research and select a good niche, you are destined for failure. This is always the most important decision you will make. Once you decide on a niche, you can begin to make your business plans.

Having a proper niche makes it a lot easier to make money through the Amazon affiliate program when the people searching for a specific product find it on your website or blog.  When you offer a wide selection of products, it is more difficult to make a sale because you won't place as well in the search engines and you'll have less targeted traffic looking for your specific products.  Also, having a wide variety of products makes it harder for the visitor to make a BUY decision.  You can sell multiple products that are connected with your niche, i.e., if your niche is about dogs, you can sell dog food, dog collars, dog training books, etc.

Select your niche and then find the Amazon products to fit your niche.  In selecting your niche, you can verify what the market wants through keyword research, using tools like Wordtracker. Research your niche, looking for the precise angle that will make your content irresistible to the visitor.

Another option to selecting your niche is to create your own niche.  If you have the vision, capabilities and want to blaze your own trail, you can create your own market.

2.  Link to Products With Content Text Links - It is estimated that about 50% of income made as an Amazon Affiliate is made through text links placed within the content on the page. Simple text links have proven to be the most effective way to get visitors to click. Web surfers trust the content on web pages more than any other area of a site, so they are much more likely to click these links than they are to click graphic links.

3.  Make Your Product Images Clickable Links - It is estimated that product images account for about 15% of total Amazon income.  Making a graphic/image clickable is relatively easy to do using HTML code.  If you need help on how to do this, you can get help with this book:  Learning Web Design: A Beginner's Guide to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Web Graphics.

4.  Create Multiple Product Links to Amazon in Your Content - Every link inside your article or content is another opportunity to bring a potential customer to the product and that’s an opportunity for you to make a commission.  Again, text links have proven to be more effective than image links in getting visitors to click.  You can insert multiple links throughout your content for more opportunities to make a sale, but don't overdo it, as it may make it harder for the visitor to make a decision.  I would recommend keeping the number of text links to no more than 3 - 4 links within a page of content.  Make sure that the product links are pertinent to your topic or content.

5.  Highest Conversion on Product Reviews - High quality product reviews of the product in your niche will get a much higher click thru rate.  In your review, show both the Pros and Cons without making it sound like a sales pitch.  Online shoppers like to see reviews regarding a product before they buy, therefore, a product review can be key in increased sales, commissions and  advertising fees earned.  A product comparison to similar products is also effective.

Applying these 5 tips should give you a good start towards increased earnings as an Amazon Affiliate/Associate.
